Pin the Tail on the Duck ( LARGE POST )
The weather forecast for tomorrow is a huge dump of snow... as much as a foot or more. I decided to take advantage of getting out for a while today and was rewarded by the arrival of a duck I've wanted since I started shooting. Not only that, but the sun was shining. May I present... Mr. Pintail.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
I actually tried to get out and get some bird/duck/etc. photos on Sunday, but almost everything I got of them flying was utter crappolla. My best lens is a Canon 70-200 f4L and it just wasn't long enough
I love looking at your bird photos though.
Thanks a lot, Jen.

Thanks very much, John. Living in Barrie, you will always get more snow than us. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy the 40D. I had one briefly and found it to be a great camera. Super IQ. I look forward to some of your BIFs.

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I agree that the 70-200 will normally be a bit on the short side for birds but the image quality that lens produces shouldl stand up to a heavy crop. 200mm with a 1.6 crop camera is the 35mm camera equivalent to 320mm. I shot 300mm today on a 1.3 crop camera which is the 35mm camera equivalent to 390mm. That's only about 20% longer. You might just surprise yourself with what you could produce with good technique. Keep the shutter speed up and be smooth with your tracking.
