It's going to be a full frame 24.6MP!!!!

Anyone seen this announcement at PMA?? Camera makers are getting crazy and Sony is leading the pack.:rofl this is off DP review today from PMA Show... A new sony camera in the making..

It's going to be a full frame 24.6MP CMOS model with Super Steady Shot stabilization, and it's coming this year.

With sensors becoming so large in recording pixel data, you are going to see the lens quality challenged like never before. Inferior glass is going to be the big challenge for many of these cameras over 20 megapixels.

Great news but how much will that sucker cost? I just paid $5K for a D3 and I don't intend to ever spend more than that on a camera body. Then there's that computer upgrade you're gonna need to process those 24.6 MP shots. I don't even want to think anout the file storage costs.

I guess it'll rival the Canon 1DsMIII for high fashion/editorial type of shooting.
For a hobbiest like me, 8-12MP serves me fine as I usually print letter sized and all that extra MP just slows my computer and requires more memory.

Besides, these new pro level bodies are so expensive and complicated, I'm not even looking at them anymore. As a matter of fact, I'm going the other way and added a point and shoot as well.

Go figure.

A mock up of the new "Flagship" Sony body with the FF 24.81mp COMS CCD to be in it. Could be the A900 most are thinking but for now it's just called "Flagship".

The word on Dyxum.Com is that the price might fall between $3.5k and $4k. Might be out by Photokina in the fall/winter.

If they can get out a 24MP FF camera for $4K or less that would be great. It would really put the pressure on C&N to come close to that price point.

I think it's going to be closer to $5k but it depends on what other features they pack in or omitt when trying to figure out if it's too much or too little for their targeted market.

But needless to say just like computers and AV equipement, what was top of the line today won't be in 10 to 14 months and it will also be worth a whole lot less then too.

Oh yeah the LCD is going to be a whopping 3.5" big too.
