Photoshop CS3 Pc & Mac font variances?

I was drafting up a proof for a client that knows just enough photoshop to be dangerous.
They asked me to change the type in a file they had since the had a Mac and the file was generated by a PC (I run PC).
They had the same font I had (in this case Futura Medium). And they seemed to think the final graphic would look differently if generated by Mac than PC.
I essentially told them they had lost their mind since fonts were vector generated by apps like fontfolio.. They stuck to their guns and asked my to make the changes. So I did since they are a valuable client to me.
Does anyone have practical knowledge on this?? It sounds absurd to me...
Running CS3 & Suitcase 11.0 if it matters. They are running CS2 w/ no font management.

Type 1 PostScript fonts use platform-specific files, and the same font may be implemented slightly differently across platforms.
I think TrueType is supposed to be better at consistency across platforms.
OpenType fonts are the newest and most sophisticated. The format is cross platform and as far as I know it should output with the same appearance and spacing on any platform using it.
My answers should not be considered definitive, but the point is that there certainly can be differences across platforms, depending.
Even that little bit is a revelation!
