So an opportunity came up today which could be too good to refuse. Some prime real estate for a photography studio!!!

I have shoot in a few studios before but never set one up. I am ok with the equipment needed etc but...

What is an ideal space for a studio? How big/small? It will be primarily used for babies/kids/families.

Can you get by with a relatively small space?

For all you studio owners would you be able to post a picture of your studio? I think this would be really helpful (and interesting) to see some studios in action.

Cheers all,
W00DY

    depends...:D

Are you wanting to have your shooting space AND office/lightroom/gear storage/book keeping/etc/etc all under one roof? ne_nau.gif

Congrats! Who wouldn't relish the opportunity for a nice dedicated space? thumb.gif

    Almost ready to open...
I just finished a build out of a space 850 sq ft.. I designed the space myself - color, furniture, floors - everything. The construction crew was wonderful to work with and my landlord was very generous with me (I already have space for my other business in the building for 10 years).

Here is the gallery to the studio under construction

I made an office 12x15 and shooting space 18x15 and a prop room of 8x12 ft. There is some hallway and a bathroom and an area set for the dressing area. It's pretty small but will serve me okay. I am sure I will need a storage space at some point for props and so at some point I will perhaps be able to knock out the wall and take out the prop room or maybe some adjacent space will become available.

I'd like it to be bigger, but, the outside is useable for shooting too. And there is always location shooting.

It's a place to start for me and what I can afford for now.

    Kathy -
Very nice space and location. Serious commitment there. Good luck! I wish I had had a chance to see it when I was in TO, but as it was I made it to the Getty 3 hours later than planned.

Hopefully busy season doesn't keep you out of there. Or you could just hideout from 'your accountant' in the new space. :D

I had a provilege to visit Kathy's new space. What a marvel! And what a great location! I'm sure pretty soon there will be a line blocking the passage to Nicola's doors rolleyes1.gif

As I have a lease for a few years and a renewal option, I am sure you'll be back for a visit! And I am moving my desk there so while my clients won't see that I am doing accounting in a photo studio! My "Accountant" is keeping the old office and my office there is going to be used when I meet with the accounting clients - but most have been told that I am moving.

Nik - Yep - hoping for a line of clients out the door and across the way. People are asking so it's a good sign!

Thanks for the info and good to see the images.

I would probably be looking at 2 rooms (or just one really large room split into sections). One would be the studio, the other the veiwing/gallery.

I don't have all the info about the studio space yet, I meet with the Real Estate Agent on Monday so I will have the plans etc then. I then have to have a few bourbons and really do my sums :)

It is a huge commitment but how big is a commitment when it has been your longest goal?

    :D
