Crumpler australia (the originals) told doc & i when we were in their shop here that the euro crumpler were no longer affiliated & were different company/quality

Hey Gus, that's weird... I know that they originated from Oz - I'm originally from Melbourne
I've got bags from Oz and Europe and they're the same quality for sure... same Marry You Bag program (i.e. lifetime guarantee) and still the same labels and advertising etc.
Will ask the distributor here when I talk to them again
Offer still stands anyway Can generally easily get 20% off of regular Euro prices...

Yeah doc may be able to offer more info. I have an attention span of 3 seconds whereas doc has directional feed conveyor for input.
Doc & i walked into the brisbane shop (im a crumpler freak & am up to number 5..its directly opposite the blood bank & i donate every 2nd monday) & the bird behind the counter asked doc where he got the one he had on his shoulder from..he said bratsulogvagliastien ( somewhere in europe) & she said its not a ridgy didge crumpler.
So we asked her what she was on about...a crumpler is a crumpler ...right ?
Apparently not.
Crumpler made a move into Europe & somehow it all went pear shaped early in the piece & this euro bag manufacturing mob that crumpler was using there just said well we are going to continue making under your name 'Crumpler' & crumpler australia realised just how much money is involved chasing a patent etc etc so basically just said..whatever & are continuing on their merry way.
**Doc... get your hairy backside in here...you will remember what it was about.

For a 3 second attention span, that's pretty detailed! I actually don't remember anymore details than you've already given.
I will say that the quality difference between my "euro" and "aus-thentic" bags are 100% un-noticeable (if it even exists at all). I do remember sitting down with two of the bags that night and having a look for slight differences, but couldn't find anything solid.
I do know there is a big difference between the models available for sale in Eu and Au, so clearly the bird here in Brissy was right about them being two seperate entities at this point.
Curious to hear what Jase founds out from the distributor.
[quote=gus(im a crumpler freak & am up to number 5..[/quote]
hehe us too....
we've got 3 satchels, 1 little satchel like bag, 2 camera bags, 1 snapshot camera bag, 1 computer backpack, about 10 CD/DVD cases, 2 mobile phone cases, 1 laptop satchel, errr and I forget the rest
I can't go past crumpler without wanting something new! :ivar
Just love the fact that there is a lifetime guarantee too!
I'll let you know what I find out from the distributor - when I have time to talk to them...at the moment big re-org in the company and it's mahem and chaos everywhere
positive side is that I should be up for a trip to the US where I can get myself a Nikon SB-800 for about 100 cheaper than here in Switzerland
Just have to work out how I can squeeze a new Macbook into the budget too... I think the missus won't be having any of that - not with the bloody tax bills!!!
Thanks for the offer re: Euro Crumpler. I looked at some of the offerings they have in your continent and it blows the US stock right out of the water (IMO).

From scratch or do they have templates? I haven't checked because the last time I visited the site it was such an irritating, obnoxious mess of hand-scribbled flash cartoons. I gave up and closed the window.
I buy my Crumplers from B&H, or at my awesome local camera shop.

Well let me know if you need help (as did the other poster) with one from australian be it standard or your design. www.crumpler.com.au They are under LTD Edition Bags on their site. The shop is only a few mins from me.
They say check back in a few hours. It has been two days, and their still down.
They're running on Filipino time.
I'm still waiting for a Crumpler bag that is 100% submersible+floats on water.
Think about it now. Add a parachute and you got yourself the coolest bag on Earth.

I do love that you can design your own bag in Australia - although it's not cheap - it's pretty damn cool

Yeah, don't get too excited, it's only a limited variety of bags and basically constrained to color.
Gus, you weren't there for this trip to the C shop, but I had a dream bag in my head, and I had actually read a post somewhere on the webs about someone who had done something similar... Anyway, I wanted the cam-adjustable messenger strap on one of their "laptop" bags instead of the run-of-the-mill one. Fairly simple thing, you would think, all part of their standard parts. Bloke at the shop said no way. I said, but you advertise "custom"??? Nope, just colors on this bag here (grabs their basic, and MOST expensive for what it is messenger bag)... Boooo!
Oh, and they're not even made in Australia anymore, have you noticed?

Yah that's what I was worried about. Like Timbuk2, theoretically you can customize your own but it's basically picking A, B, or C from a pre-made list. Eh.
Don't get me wrong, their bags still totally kick butt. I use at least one every day. My most recent is a messenger backpack that I commute to work with. It gets filthy, soaked, etc... and still crumples like new.
And unlike Timbuk (yeah, I had the love for them once too), Crumpler does have a big variety in their lineup. Only true bag nerds would not find a bag to suit their needs. Guilty.

Yes, everyone needs a Crumpler or 5. I recently got the Headaitch for everyday non-camera needs. I love it, and am looking forward to being in Europe to pick up some stuff that I can't get over here, normally.
I suppose that in true woman-fashion I love bags... but the ones I want need to be able to withstand being thrown under a truck.

I dont know how you thought they would make you this bag. From as far as ive always known & their info has said.....you choose diff colours only.
I also wouldnt expect them to be made here with our labor costs just as pretty much every where else in 1st world countries.
