Help needed, please:
I have a Nikon 80-200mm zoom lens for which I'd like to get a 1.4x teleconverter. To be exact, the lens label calls it the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED. I ran some searches and found that Nikon's current 1.4x converter is the TC-14E II. The specifications for the TC-14E as given at include a list of compatible lenses, among which is the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8D ED-IF.
After looking at photos at various websites, I'm pretty sure that my lens is _not_ the one listed in the TC-14E's specs. The AF-S 80-200mm appears to be a discontinued model. My question is this: does anyone here know if the TC-14E converter will work with the lens I do have?

Unfortunately, it doesn't help. The first review at the photographyreview.com link says explicitly that the TC-14E II will not work with the older 80-200mm AF-D lens. That's the lens I have. I've looked at the specs for the TC-14E in several places, including Nikon's own website, and they all say the same thing: it works only with AF-S and AF-I lenses. It almost seems that to get a converter for my 80-200mm AF-D lens, I have to either buy a third-party one or buy Nikon's old TC-14B model -- which kills the autofocus function and reduces me to manual focusing.
