Hi:

I have my smugmug up and running at: sgsn.smugmug.com.
Works great but I have a partnership with several magazines who want to be able to download pics on the fly. How do I allow just them access to download these pics without making seperate photo galleries and password protecting them without blocking the downloads?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Shine,

You will either need to use a guest password to allow them access to the site, or make duplicate galleries and password protect them. I know the later is not what you wanted to hear.

See these help sections for more information -
    Guest Password: http://www.smugmug.com/help/guest-passwords
    Passworded galleries: http://www.smugmug.com/help/private-albums

Keep in mind that a guest password carries with it a lot of power. So only use it if you trust these folks to have access.

I wish that I had a better answer for you.

    Ouch... my head hurts now
I created the guest account, but now my question is if I turned off the downloadable feature so kids couldn't download them as an anonymous user, how do I give the magazine editor the rights to download? I'm guessing the create two galleries thing is my only recourse.

One public and locked down, one password protected and wide opn. Is there a way to copy a galleria and rerun permissons or customize the settings for the "private" galleries.

    Shine,

You might want to look at a couple of tools that we have here: http://wiki.smugmug.com/display/SmugMug/Hacks+and+Apps

    Check out Gallery Copier: http://www.liggitt.net/smugtools/copier/

    Also Albumfetcher for downloading. http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=47160

I cannot see any reason why you could not let them download a copy and then use the guest password to download the originals they need.

But, the safest way is probably the duplicate gallery with password protection.
