This would negate my intended use of the lens which would've been chasing my kids around the house and getting those "in close" shots.

Just found out that there is 800 mm F5.6 available from the Canon US web page. But it is pending for FCC approval before release,:crazy
I don't think it make more sense that carry a 35 lbs aluminum tube around. Remember that you need a heavy duty tripod weight 20 lb and the super ball head weight another 5 - 10 lbs to support the 35 lbs lens plus the body. The total 60 -70lbs is not mobile at all. The 1200 mm may need to be mounted on H1 like the anti-aircraft machine gun or need two porters to carry it behind you.:help
Just get a 600 mm with a 2X will be extreme.
I am waiting for my 500 mm to arrive. May put a 2X then 1.4X to have 1400 mm :ivar
big boys like to dream of big toys. Good to keep in my wishlist.
There are cheap alternative on ebay - just 200 dollars can get a 800 - 1600 zoom (but F 16), not sure about the IQ

I looked for the review on The-Digital-Picture.com (the enabler of my lens addiction) but it's not posted yet.

While it's not quite a pop bottle bottom, it's not really a "quality" lens either. There are reviews available and shots of the moon are interesting. Not the worst I've seen but not worth the money either (IMHO).
