Can't get geography to work

Geography is making me crazy. I got my Google map key and geo-tagged the feature photo in a number of my albums. The home page map shows pins for the photos but clicking on the pin brings up the Google map location rather than a thumbnail of the picture.

If I go to one of the geo-tagged galleries and click on "Map It", I get the default map of Sunnyvale rather than the location for the geo-tagged feature photo (which is also the first photo).

I looked at another member's gallery and when I clicked on his pins, the map zoomed to that location and brought up the thumbnail. This is a different behavior than I see with the "Rated in Silicon Valley" example map where the thumbnail is displayed without zooming the map.

Any suggestions? It's happening on Mac (Firefox, Safari) and Windows (FF, IE7) and regardless of being logged in or not.

BTW, I've noticed that the geography examples seem to have some problems. "Rated in Silicon Valley" map behaves as expected but about 1/2 the photos are missing. "Two wheels to terror" hangs on a "loading photos" status message. "dgrins world tour" has no photos. "eye on NYC" hangs on the "loading photos" status message.

Thanks, Bill

    Hi Bill,

I'm sorry for your mapping troubles. It looks as if you have your global hello smuggers setting in the settings tab of your control panel not set to yes. It needs to be set to yes for the mapping feature to work properly. We can't show photos on a map that aren't publically searchable by at least SmugMug search. I apologize that our interface doesn't fully reflect on this limitation yet and the map buttons are still available. We're aware of that.

    I hope this helps.
It's been reported that the mapping examples are broken. This should be fixed with our next release.

That did the trick although it took a few minutes to take effect.

Seems crazy that something this important isn't mentioned in the help section. It mentions private and protected galleries but doesn't mention needing at least "Hello Smuggers". Oh well.

    Thanks, Bill
