What do you think?

A few of my friends were just messing around after school and I took a few shots. Initially, the shot was kind of blah (seen here) but I didn't think he stood out at all and the white balance was off. So I made a few changes and wondering what you guys think?

I think you've done the bg very good. Also that expression in his face is good, you have captioned "the moment" ;)

It's good to see more and more of the 40D in action in DGrin!

Your pic is an ordinary kind of snap but it is ordinary too in a good way, that is, there is nothing bad about it ;)

The best thing is that you are POSTING!

I'm not an expert by any means, but the knob on the bass is slightly chipped off the frame and it draws my eye towards that more than anything. I'm also not fond of the lines in the background.

Other than that, it's very crisp and clear!

I think you should offer some suggestions if you're going to criticize a shot.ne_nau.gif

    Hey Trevor,

    I'll give you a critiquethumb.gif

I think you did a great job exposing the shot. Chose a good angle that didn't have anything busy in the background to compete.

It looks to me that you were zoomed out pretty close to 17mm. I can tell this because of the barreling on the upper left back wall. This is something you need to watch out for. Especially if there are allot of lines in the background.

I would have also backed out (or stepped back) a little bit so the shot didn't feel so crammed.

You might try opening up aperture 1 stop to get the whole bass guitar in focus. But that can be REALLY hard to see on a small LCD while shooting.

    All in all, good shot!

I'm only providing feedback since I really believe this is what you want to hear.

    Cheers,
    -Jon

Thanks for the comments guys I'll keep that stuff in mind. Here's another shot from that night. I fixed the WB and the focus was too close between him and the BG so I made a copy of the original and put a Gaussian blur of 3/3.5 and then erased it where I wanted sharp. What do you think?

I really like this editted one, the motion blur on the stick is great! I think the drum behind, or next to him should be infocus though. I like the background blurred. The second cymbol looks like it's not part of his set, is that intentional? Did you add curves too? The colors seem to pop more in your edit. Again, good job!

All I did was I set the black point for WB/color correction. The drum behind him is not a part of his set which is why I left it out of focus; maybe I should clone/patch/heal/idk it out of the shot? The hihat infront of him is a part of the set but it was more away from him so I left it OOF.

For me I would prefer to see more of the face in the shot.
I think you captured the action pretty well and the colors look pretty close.
