I am looking to have some custom memory mates printed. Since that is not an option offered by SM does any one have a place that you would recommend???

    Hi Rene`

I think you have a few options:
    1. MPix does this.

    2. Some local labs do too, so you could try a google search for that option - my local lab does, but I haven't tried them.

    3. Design your own with your editing program and print through smugmug as 8x10 or 8x12. That way you can really customize it for it for your needs.
Check out Mitchell's recent thread with his collage, or check my sports samples for variety of ideas.

    Thanks--
    Hi Ann,

Thanks for your suggestion. I looked at MPix, but their Memory Mates look a bit boring. I was thinking about designing my own to print with SM, but I am not sure how to design it so that I can just slide each image in. I guess what I am saying is I am not sure how to create an overlay.

Well, what do you have as a photo editor?

PSP (XII for sure) has templates of the classic memory mate. You can fill it with your color choice etc.
I made several, not very good, trader card templates last year too. Look here.

I just switched to a mac and PSCS, and I know it can be done in PSCS but haven't tried so cannot give you steps right yet.
The trick is layers, and moving layers forward and backward. Your bottom layer should be transparent. Then you can copy paste the subject photo onto the template, and move it to the appropriate place in the layer sandwich.

    Does that make any sense?

    Bay photo
I did mine a Bay Photo. You can even customize them simply. I have great luck with them (this is my primary lab).

    Rene,
I have been using templates from http://artisticaction.com/
Have had great success with them, and just a few sales paid for them.
They offer many different options/sports to choose from, they are completely customizable, can change the year so you can use them as long as you want. So much you can do with these especially if your like me and can't make your own. Good luck

BTW, I'm not affiliated with them, I'm just a happy customer

I make these all the time. I'd be happy to help you. I make mine in photshop just by making an 8x10 background and adding the photos as new layers. For team shots I just make an initial template and drop in the individual player photos. Very easy to do and then just sell them an 8x10 print.

    Here are a few

I am looking to do this as well . .can you tell me how much you sell your 8X10 print for with an individual and team picture . .thanks . . also, while I have your attention, please explain to me the process (in layman's terms) what exactly I do when I am done with my "project" .. I don't want to flatten so I can make changes . .how do I upload to smugmug . . .how do I convert from psd to jpeg . .I think my files are way too big .. any help I would do appreciate!

    Thanks

I know in Photoshop 7.0, I just use layers. Once you have your template the way you like it, just save as a .psd file ext. then insert a picture and go back and save as a .jpg file ext.

    Volleyball Memory Mate
I use PS Elements 6 to make memory mates. This one I did for volleyball. I liked the idea of having a print instead of cardboard so parents could place them in a scrapbook or a binder if they liked.

OK, I see you start out with an 8x10 in Photoshop, but what size do you use for the team picture and indiv pic? I can not fit a 5x7 team shot with a 3.5x5 indiv. into the 8x10 Am I making since to you?

I make my own digital memory mates, but the traditional cardboard ones where you insert a 5x7 of the team and a 3 1/2x 5 of the individual is still my top seller. I offer them both. You can get the cardboard ones from several different sources. I offer an all-sport version and a plain blue version. The plain blue is a TAP product. For my digital ones I use a background that I made which I can change the hue/saturation to match different team/school colors. I change the words, graphics to match the sport.
