I just got my first digital SLR (Rebel xTi) in early December. I've been practicing at my son's sporting events. Of course they would have to be the quite difficult lighting sports: hockey, gymnastics, and wrestling. I'm renting a Canon 70-200mm lens to try out. I'm still having trouble with White balance and also ISO (I pretty much have to shoot at 1600, the max on my camera to get the shutter speed needed). I have absolutely no experience with photography so be kind. Thanks.

Thanks!! Actually I have 2 boys, the younger one does the gymnastics and wrestling and the older one plays hockey. They both play baseball (at least I'll have better light on the baseball field). Going to another gymmastic meet this weekend. I'm going to try a differenct approach - more closeups of his face and hands (more like portraits) since at his beginner level there are more held poses than fancy flips.

I like your hockey shots. It's a fast moving game, you must have watched most of it through your viewfinder!
