Returned home today from 11 days of MI5 shooting. Was really curious to see how these shots turned out with the high ISO. Early morning eagle with moss. ISO 1600 on these. Had a great time with these eagles.

Thanks for taking us to the secret bird cave, Jose. I enjoyed the company and the birds.

Thanks for looking.

added: 100% crop to show detail (or lack of) and noise (or lack of) from a non D3 body . :-P No NR applied.

Nice pictures and the bird cooperated with flying at just the right angle to get good lighting. thumb.gif

Great captures Mike! The grass almost looks like smoke trailing behind the eagle!

Really excellent images, especially considering the ISO. Like raptorcaptor said, at first glace I thought that first shot looked like the eagle was leaving a trail of smoke, just like an airplane's exhaust. Pretty cool!

    <avoids photoshopping a flaming eagle> :D:D

Thanks Glenn. It was fun chasing these eagles around for a few days. Hope to get back soon adn get some more shots of them. The young had hatched but were never really seen. Soon the parents will be flying all over getting food and bringing it back. Lots of flight shot ops coming up....just hope I can get back to the nest.

Thanks Harry. I guess you must regularly shoot at ISO 1600. For me...it's rather high and only used in extra low light situations where I need some high shutter speeds. I look forward to MIVI.

I know you were Harry. I changed my original post giving you grief about your first dozen Nikon cameras and their "noise" issues. rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif:Deek7.gif For me...and the 20D.. ISO 1600 is pretty high. I am stuck with the doubling of ISO until I upgrade to a MK III/IV. That darn 20D goes from 100 to 200 to 400 to 800 to 1600 to 3200 ISO. Would have liked something a bit lower...but the shots will print up fine at a good size also. :ivar I was passed off to Harris and Mike Mac for a ride and they were limited for room so I left the tripod in the motel and was shooting hand held that morning. Had to keep shutter speed up around 1/1600 - 1/2000 sec for the gear I was shooting. The old arms are not what they were last year. Hand holding that 400mm at 1/500 are gone for now. grrrrr

Hey Mike, you have some great bird pictures. Have you been to Costa Rica?
Over 850 species of bird have been recorded in the country. There are more bird species in Costa Rica alone than any one of the continents of Europe, Australia or North America

Thank you. Unfortunately I've not been out of the country. Costa Rica would be fun. My Uncle travels there and considered moving there once. Ended up in Montana. headscratch.gifrolleyes1.gif Would love to get to Australia and Africa to shoot the wildlife also.

I too would really love to go to Africa. However CR is affordable, and we might be going back again in April.

I hoping that my friend who takes a hunting trip to Africa every so often would hire me to tag along and photograph it for him!!mwink.gif
