Indeed, you are absolutely right about the light been too harsh.
I could give you a lot of excuses for this problem but no, I will not because I do agree and I will try to do a better work next time.
May be a snoot and a grid would overcome the problem.
I have to be very careful on this because the "toureiro" must not have harsh light on him.
I will use the humbrella and bounced light, as I will be shooting inside, in a room, in a pousada and with 2 assistants (what a luxury ! )
I don't mind the harsh light. It looks like bright sunlight, thus the sun hat with the big brim. The face and the expression with the word "charme" in the foreground makes a very interesting juxtaposition.

Thank you all.
She was outside and my wife gave her this hat because of the Sun.
When I shot this picture the Sun was not very strong.
I decided to use two flashes because I thought it would give nice lights from one side and from the other.
She just looked at me from time to time and smiled.:D
- Oh Oh, shooting, shooting... so many.
In fact I shot some 30/40 pictures moving the lights and experimenting.
Some picture were louzy but at the end I was doing better.
I moved the flash on the left side to light the wall, while I was hiding it with the magazine.
I was laying on the ground shooting from the bottom.
It is interesting to see that some people like the photo the way it is and others not so much.
I myself I do like it. However, I find it to be rather harsh.
A more soft light would make it better.
Someday I have to repeat it.
Thank you all for the comments and critique. I like that.

Antonio, I kinda like the funky lighting! It's a bit on the experimental side, but makes for an interesting story. Got to break the rules now and then! I love the composition and cute expression on her face.
Nice to see this shot...pretty near the same set up I use.
The 'squint', plus the sun hat (and shadow), and I first thought it was outdoors; until I read otherwise. The skin tones rhyme well with the hat, and lettering on the magazine. Pleasant tones throughout. The lipstick is a nice transition from the lettering: Charme. And the texture of the hat versus background is cool. And lets not forget the Beauty mark!

Wooohooo! Good job lighting up the background to make separation. Just like you're supposed to do. I am a big fan of direct flash - I love the color and contrast achieved. I think you did a good job with the exposure difference between the background and lighting her face.

Good shot, but the strong line of shadow on her right cheek is distracting to me.

This shot was done outside - excuses -
EDIT - For spelling. I had some mistakes.
I really like it! It reminds me of a grandmother on holiday reading her gossip magazine.
Keep shooting, it only makes you better!
