Idea for favorites/bookmarks mashup.

I've been using smugmug for a while and love the gallery display and viewing that the site offers. I try to upload all my images to smugmug and am phasing out other sites that I use (Pictage in particular). However, there is a critical feature missing for my wedding clients - marking and organizing images as favorites or in folders.

I had an idea, but I haven't quite worked it out yet. Basically, my thought is to use a bookmarking site (like del.icio.us) with some custom buttons in my galleries. The basic thought is to have a button or link for each picture that posts that image to my del.icio.us (this is one problem with the rough idea - whose account, etc.). The link is pre-populated with the tags I want to use to organize the data: tsp (generic label) favorite (basically the folder name) and albumid (so all images from a gallery can be grouped together).

Then I though I could use an RSS feed from del.icio.us of the bookmarks with those particular tags - and I have a handy, portable list of a user's favorites.

Perhaps del.icio.us isn't the best choice, but I think the idea is potentially very valuable. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Nobody is interested in being able to mark favorites (or have others mark favorites) in your galleries? Really?

    Here are my thoughts now.

I think I will use the "Add Comment" functionality already present to have users add "tags" that I can later use to categorize their selections.

I may modify the content of the form via javascript to create custom comment "buttons" with pre-filled comment and rank values.

Then via the API (is there an RSS feed for comments?), I will retrieve the comments for a gallery and re-organize...

    Hi Tony,

I'd also be interested in using something like this. It would allow customers to choose images to be used in a custom album e.g. Graphistudio.

If Smugmug ever includes collections/virtual galleries, then that might be the best option - assuming there was an easy way to add an image to them e.g. a simple button or tickbox.

Exactly. I have customers that need to pick images for albums, dance customers to pick images for custom collages, etc.

Plus, I think giving users who browse my site the ability to mark their favorites ad-hoc and have a "virtual galley" of their own (on my site) to link to their friends is incredibly valuable.

    another missing tool
today i recived an email from a guy whoo would like to purchase 5 images from me he says he put them into shopping bascet so i can see them and give him a better deal. the problem is i have no view on his bascet so i have no idea on his choice.
Once a month i sell my photo to a magazine for a cover they have to send me an email with a link to their favorite photo so i can suggest something else. it would be so nice to just have ability to create a customers folder with their name over it so i just can see what are their favorites.
I didn´t find any good solution for it jet and would be glad for any sugestions
