Is it Ok to hide keywords?

I am just starting to learn about using keywords, in order to get more traffic to my site. I am a complete and utter beginner when it comes to all the css, coding and general complexity of setting up my smugmug website, and I find it almost more than I can handle.

As I began reading all the threads about keywords, I noticed a major difference of opinion between Andy and someone whose name I can’t remember, as I can no longer find the thread. If I recall correctly, I think that Andy said to hide your keywords if you want, which I have done since I don’t want them cluttering up my website. But the other party said NO, wait. This is a bad idea and is harmful, since Google will consider hidden keywords to be a bad thing.

Was this ever resolved? Is it okay to have my keywords hidden?

Thank you very much for any help.

My keywords are hidden, via CSS. They're on the page, in the html, which is what googlbot sees.

My stuff gets found by google nicely :)

Okay, thanks Andy. I believe mine are hidden via css.

<<< via CSS. They're on the page, in the html,>>>

I thought css is one programming language and html is another. But, apparently they're both there at the same time. Okay, wait, that's probably not something I need to know.

I'll leave them hidden. Thanks again :D
