I current;y have a Vivitar 90mm 2.8 MACRO lens. Using in on a DX format camera (so i have a bigger crop factor)... I am able to get close but not as close as i would like...

example:

I can't afford extension tubes right now so i'm looking for a cheap(er) solution... Close-up filters.. such as x2, x4 and x8 (about $25)

Good idea ? will I be able to get closer than my current reach of the 90mm ?

THanks !

Fraid those cheap dioptre add ons are not that good- you get a lot of chromatic aberration. Checkout a raynox add on lens- they do one with a clip on fitting and optically they are much better quality.

    THanks Brian for the feedback.

I'm thinking an M2 Nikon extension tube might do the trick... and they can be had for about $20 :)
