Floating Gator
This alligator was swimming around in the canal behind my house. The shot was taken at dusk. I was standing on my seawall and the odd thing was my flash did not reflect off the water surface but instead made it appear as though there was a light source below the gator. One of those lucky shots.

Gator do attack people in Florida Mike. A good poriton of the attacks are attributable to human stupidity. Last week in the wetlands I had the misfortune to observe a pick-up of teens driving around. When they saw a gator one of the teens would jump out of the vehicle and run at a gator. The gators as their norm fled in to the water. Now if they try this trick around April (gator mating season) when the critters are a tad more aggressive they may get a different result.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Also, if those kids try that with a gator and they are between it and the water(it's escape route) they will get a different result.
Great shot too!
So true, and it's surprising how many people think a gator is slow moving...WRONG!

That is a true story. The guy dove into a lake to swim away from a sheriff's deputy. It is my impression the gator was not deputized but successfully nabbed the criminal.

Large gators can move their entire length in the blink of an eye when so moved. They only appear somnolent. Never assume a gator is harmless, that is folly.

Yeah I know that the Aus salt water croc is supposed to be able to outrun a racehorse over the initial 50 meters. No slow beasts by any means.
