MI V at Vierra and Green Cay as done with a P&S camera

Nightingale and I were fortunate to attend Harry's MI V shoot recently.

I saw so many large lenses and fancy cameras last week, that I decided to see what I could accomplish in the way of bird and wildlife photography armed with nothing but my Canon G9 point and shoot, and Florida's obliging birds.

No telephoto lenses, no DSLRs here, no accessory add on optics, just a straight forward G9 and a little cropping occasionally in Photoshop.

Lizards are common of course

An anhinga silhouette would be nice....

An anhinga drying its wings is always necessary

Great Blue Herons can be difficult to capture close up, but......

A great egret in breeding plumage might be nice

A good sunrise is a great way to start the day

Nice series Jim. That G9 looks like a nice P&S. I use to use my G2 for similar shots. Still carry it. Good to see you and C/Kathy at MI5 and enjoyed chatting with you both at lunch. So now that you are using the G9 you can send me all your expensive and long Canon glass...O.K. ? :D

    Hi Mike,

It was good to have a chance to chat with you again also.

I am sorry, but I am going to keep my long glass for a while yet. But I'll keep you in mind if I ever change my mind.

    Nice shots, pathfinder!

It really isn't about the gear, you know. Give a technically competent person a scene worthy of photographing, and well, there ya go! :D

    Hmmph . . .
If you was a real man, you'd schlep my G1 - for which I paid $800US back in the day, but which still takes as nice a photo as I'm capable of.

I've been waiting for you to post some of these. Much more convenient to have a P/S than lug around all the gear all the time. Nice Bokeh :giggle.

I think the G9 even surprised you Jim.

    Good to see everyone again.

    Here's another lizard

And everyone's friend, a fire ant.

I really didn't want to get to close to the fire ants:D

Excellent shots Jim. Just goes to show that a good photographer can do. Most of the DCs out there now are so good you can get excellent shots with them if you know what you're doing.
