Finally got to try out my new 70-300

It's been in in the house for over 2 weeks, but since my birthday wasn't until yesterday, my wife wouldn't let me put the lens on to my camera. Well, I finally went outside and played with it today, and I must say that I really think that I am going to like the IS on this lens. I'm only attaching 1 shot since I don't have an account with any real photo hosting site, but this shot of the stop sign was taken at 300mm, F/8 with a 400 ISO. Too bad it's so overcast outside. Thing that I like about this shot, is that that stop sign is around 100 yards + away from where I was standing and when I zoom in, I can clearly read everything on the no parking sign that is behind the stop sign. I can't wait to take this thing to the Rangers game this weekend and test out mode 2 of the IS.

It's okay. I picked up my 50mm 1.4 about 3 weeks ago, and since I've been reading every book I can to learn about photography, that was an excellent lens to learn with. How to shoot with little light, with flash, etc. Now hopefully I can put this lens to good use as I'm getting the feel for aperatures and shutter speed. Still learning in which situation to use which ISO, but that will come.

I really like my own 70-300: It's a perfect lens for sitting downtown and getting people shots; not to intrusive, easy to handle. My copy seems to excel at about f/8, which is nice on cloudy northwest days. I've also found it useful at outdoor events, and at night concerts with a speedlight.

    On the streets with 70-300 @ F/8:
