Accurate Altitude is a freeware command line program that crawls through photos in your SumgMug albums looking for geography data. If it finds a photo with Longitude and Latitude data the program will try to find an accurate altitude buy querying several geographic databases based on the photo's coordinate data. If the program finds altitude information it will update the altitude field on your SmugMug photo. If it does not find any altitude information it will leave the photo alone.

To use the program run the exe file from the command line. Login to your SumgMug account using your email address and SmugMug password. You will get a list of all your Albums, choose the number of the album you want to process. Accurate Altitude will process and update all the photos in that album that it can with out prompting you. If you want to process a different album just run the program again.

This program only updates the “Altitude” field in your SmugMug photo’s geography coordinates properties. It does not change any other fields. It has only been tested on Windows 2000 and XP.

bitbomb, this is a badass program, nice work.

Maybe for version 2, you could have it enter the Lat/Long for photos that don't have it... by analyzing what the picture is of... please? I really don't want to enter that in for all my photos :D

    (that was a joke BTW...)

Well, if the photo had the correct date and time, and it was outdoors, we could calculate the latitude based on the length of the shadows...Hmmm... that sounds difficult. It will have to wait until version 3. :D
Actually my GPS device is pretty bad at figuring out the correct altitude. Apparently it sacrifices altitude accuracy to get better lat/long accuracy. And since I like taking pictures at the top of big hills I wanted the correct altitude.
That reminds me, I should point out that this only get ground level altitude. So if you take a lot of pictures from the tops of skyscrapers or hot air balloons, this program might not be very useful. headscratch.gif
