Thanks Nikolai. Looks like this one happens at a more reasonable time than that last one did. Mind lending me your expertise on how to predict where the moon will be on that date/time? I'm trying to figure out which DC landmark/monument to try to include with it.
    Thanks,
    E

If you visit that link, you'll see the link to the map, too. DC is in a very good position, full umbra methinks... On a West Coast we'll only get half...ne_nau.gif

Thanks Nikolai but that link requires a facebook login which I don't have.

Thanks Aaron for the kind words...I'll do my best to live up to the expectations.

    Settings and gear selection?

Last eclipse I shot with my 828. Now that I have such a selection of gear, I am wondering what to take out?

It is 0C here tonight, and I do not have any driving commitments...makes me think of picking a shoot location with a great backdrop too!!!

    ANSWER:
    info here

    The View from New England
Clear and cold last night here in Nashua, NH. I took these with a Canon 40D and Sigma 70-300mm.

    10:35pm:

    0.8s @ ƒ/11, ISO3200, 300mm

    1/200 @ ƒ/8, ISO100, 300mm

I was surprised to learn that even at 2 seconds there is visible movement of the stars and moon. ne_nau.gif

:cry Couldn't shoot it, I had heavy cloud cover. Now gotta wait a couple of years for the next one.

:cry Overcast here, too. I couldn't even see a hint of the moon at the designated time. Gotta wait for the next one now. Sigh.

It is amazing how fast that sucker moves, isn't it? I was hoping to use what I learned from the last eclipse on this one. Sigh again. :cry

    +1 :cry
Of course, last night was an overcast - in our place at least. I heard some people managed to see it, but it was spotty at best...

I think people closer to the coast was out of luck with the cloud cover. I lived farther inland, about 20 miles from the south coast, so there was a break in the clouds for about 90 minutes, just enough to see the beginning to the total eclipse. After that the show was over with light cloud cover returning, so no pics of moon emerging from the eclipse.

It was a beautiful last night. Wish I had known before, I would have bought my tripod out with me. Needless to say, I saw it but got no useable pics.
