I will not comment on the first shot but lets watch it in the future.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

pretty damn close...I have a flat feeder & stuff set up about 15 or so feet behind my garage, I shoot through a opened window. It's not heated but it helps that I'm out of the wind & snow.
the Junco is actualy sitting on a "fake" branch. It's a couple feet beyond the flat feeder. It is a metal pole stuck in the ground. I then found a 3 or 4 inch diamater piece of wood about 2 feet long , drilled the bottom out to fit snug on the pole. drilled a few more holes about an inch deep to put suet in for the woodpeckers & a couple of holes near the top to stick some branches in. the birds like to sit on the branches before hitting the feeder.. great photo opp!! like this
