Help with link in signature

Can anyone tell me why this snippet of HTML does not display as a link properly when put into my forum signature?

we don't allow HTML in signatures, sorry. This should do it though:

[*url=http://web.mac.com/mercphoto/iWeb/Site/Mercury%20Photography%20Blog/Mercury%20Photography%20Blog.html]My Blog![*/url]

Leave out the asterisks (*) <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >
