I'd just like to know do you ya'll keep your RAW image files or just the resized JPG or do you keep them at TIFF? I'm just trying to figure out if I need a bigger HD. I've got a 160gig with an older 30gig slaved in.

HD's are so cheap these days. Most useres I come across keep their RAWs somewhere as ultimate back-ups, if nothing else. As Raw converters improve nice to be able to go back and possibly revisit what one might do with an image.

I also use UF Raw at times (with GIMP) and Irfranview too. And for RAW viewing, I use pretty much any Vista compatible viewer using Canon's RAW driver for Vista.

I'm interested in how you get Irfanview to convert RAW. I'm only able to get it to access the embedded jpeg. (Image size 1936x1288 from a Canon 40d where it should be 3888x2592.)

BigAl might actually get an answer to this with it's own properly titled thread eslewhere in the sub forum.

In this under read thread you're less likely to get a answer to an OT question like that.

I used to use ACR, then switched the Nikon Capture NX. I like the way it handles colors.

Lightroom is a pain in my arse. I use it for organizing, etc., but I don't like the auto-adjustments it makes (and haven't found a way to completely turn that off).

you should be able to do your own default preset with zero applied or what ever works for an initial setting for you, if you are using Version 1.3.1.

    Sorry LRmvcDonR. It's an aside.

    There's a plug-in available from the Irfanview site. If it's not in the 'format.exe' collection, it's available as a separate CRW/CR2 plug-in.

    From: http://www.irfanview.com/

"CRW - (version 4.10): allows IrfanView to read Canon CRW/CR2 files (high resolution image version) Note: this PlugIn requires additional Canon DLLs. You can download these DLLs with the Canon ZoomBrowser program:
    http://www.canon.com/
    or try here:
    http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/plugins/canon_crw.zip
(check "Readme.txt" for instructions and install!)"

Thanks for info, but I've been down that road (see post 7) and it still displays 1926x1288 images. (FWIW, those plugin files are pretty old.)

Version 4.10 appears to be Nov 15, 2007. That's only three months?
