Printed Portfolios

I've got to put one together. Normally I just give out business cards, refer to my website, or something like that, but now I am motivated to make a real print portfolio for the first time.

Best print sizes? Best layout options? Best portfolio style/brand/model? Other advice?

I'd like to buy something with pages that can be swapped in and out, that way I can update/adjust the portfolio on the fly. Also, I'd like to stay as close to the 2:3 aspect ratio as possible, but none of the portfolios I've seen do this.

I've run a few searches here, but don't see anything addressing this topic, which is strange.

I use a ArtProfolio Brand Itoya storage/display book 13"x 19". It has 25 pages, so will hold 50 12x18 prints. I have actually now filled one and started filling a second. I am now going to have seperate ones for Sports, Weddings, Landscape/Art.

Also at the 12x18 size prints are very impressive. And if printed at the right place, pretty cost effective also. I got my prints for under $5 each.
"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

It probably will hold a 13x19, but who prints that size, and then its not a true 2:3 ratio. More of a pain, and I imagine you will pay dearly for the extra inch on each side.

They come with a black insert in each sleeve and you put the prints on either side. It looks great and makes it easy to put prints in and get them out.

The Itoya is great. I can't find on B&H or Adorama, but I get a ton of places when googled.

I'd never heard of Itoya before, thanks for the info. Don't you think 50 prints is way too much for a portfolio though? I might go with the Expo model, which only has room for 24 shots. Will it come with the black paper or will I need to buy the sheets on their own?

Also, if I'm going to be printing 8x12s, would they work better in the 11x14 or the 9x12, you think?

Well it has 25 pages you could choose to only use 1 side.

    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/

has them and a good amount of other stuff. And they have really great product pictures of the Itoya.

I had some 8x12 and they just aren't as impressive as the larger prints. You can really appreciate a great image at that size.

If you do go with the smaller ones, having a little extra room probably never hurt, but I don't have any experience with the smaller ones.

I went with the Itoya Expo 9x12, in which I will put 22 or 23 8x12 images (leaving a page or two for bio/contact/etc.). I've also ordered $300 worth of 8x12 lustre prints from my SmugMug.
