Have been using the Canon 550EX for couple of years and need another newer and more powerful flash for event photos, such as wedding, outdoor portrait and indoor group photos.
It seems Quantum Qflash meet my requirement as it produce the most powerful lights and have couple of accessories from softbox, reflector to strobo. But the price are rather high.
Checked the old threads, there were some mix comments on the T4d.

Can someone advise whether there are any althernative for off-shoes portable battery flash, and what are the experience of Qflash?

I've used and have had good luck with a pair of Sunpak 622 flashes (link) to light up a whole room with no problem. Power supplied by the TR-2000 Battery Pack (link).

I'm far from happy with the TR 2000. See http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?t=85086

I finally broke down and bought the Quantum 5D for my MKIII after years of being luke warm about the quality of light and the diffusers like Gary Fongs for the 580EX.

I shot with the Quantum today and the soft box and was very happy with the quality of light. Not too happy yet about exposure consistency, but maybe I could optimize my settings better.

    Here are a couple samples:

Thanks Baldy for the nice samples.
I designed to get the 580EX II for the time being. As had already had the 550EX which can syn with the 580EXII, it will address my primary concern with much lower start up cost. I also have couple of smaller flash guns and light sensor trigger hotshoes, it can be used for the background or light effect.
Will try to get the Quantrum later when I have more cash.
