The right to sell photos

I have read the sticky in the MYOB forum and have read a few other sources but was hoping to get a bit of clarification on some issues. If i take photos from the stand of a national football match do i have the right to then sell the photos? I am in the process of getting a media pass to many events throughout the year but i was wondering what the legal ramifications were with this. The same question also applies to local sports. I try and get the permission from the local clubs and usually the are quite happy, but sometimes its not possible. What are my rights with this?

I am from Australia, but i have found that most of our rights are very similar to other parts of the world, so any input would be fantastic. Thanks
