API key usage

Quick question that I could not find an answer for in the forums; I created a WordPress plugin and to do the advanced stuff I require that the user have an API key, but in reality that does not make sense to me. So my question is, what is the thought on embedding my API into the code? Is that how everyone else does it or is that a no-no?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thanks devbobo, I guess, if the user is just "getting" and not "putting," having the "programs" api embedded is ok. But if/when I get to the level that the end user will be "putting," ie uploading, editing text that will get sent back to smugmug, I will just require the end user to have their API.
