How do API keys work? + how to SSP/Smugmug Integration...

I'm kind of confused on how API' keys work. I read somewhere on this forum that API keys are assigned to the specific program created...

So that means if I download someones hack for a specific purpose, it should have a key already created for it?

Basically, I downloaded the SSP/Smugmug integration thing. (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=50128 )

and when i was trying to prepare it. It said

// The api key used to access SmugMug
// You can request one of these at: http://www.smugmug.com/hack/apikeys
$smugssp_config = '';

This is in the smugssp.php file.

Does this mean I have to wait and apply?

You need your own API key. I just posted requesting status of these....
