I just discovered that Neil van Niekerk of planet neil will be teaching a flash photography workshop in my area in a couple weeks. Has anyone been to one or does anyone think this would be a beneficial class?

EDIT: Not confident about the location of this post...mods feel free to move if necessary!

    Elaine,

I wish I could go. I love the stuff what Neil and strobist are doing. Living in the Philippines is great but does have it's disavantages when it comes to these kind of seminars :-(

If you go please fill us in on what you learn.

    Cheers/Peter

Sorry I missed this post earlier, Elaine.

Neil's website is a trove of great information about the use of speedlites, whether Nikon or Canon. Apparently he uses both systems interchangeably. Wow!

If his workshop is convenient and affordable, I can't think of something that will give a bigger boost to one's images, than the use of good off camera flash lighting. New photographers always talk about new lenses, but lighting , including professional speedlighting, will really make your images POP!

There was a time many years ago, when I was an "available light shooter" because using flash off camera could be very challenging. Today, with an EOS speedlite or a Nikon speedlite all things are possible and easy too.

If it were nearby and convenient and affordable, I would certainly do it.

I'd be interested in attending. It's not to far of a drive and I've got tons of friends in the Portland area.
    - points for not having info easily accessible though. I sent an email requesting details...

I HIGHLY recommend Neil's workshops - I have attended two of them, and my flash photography has dramatically improved.
