Custom Domain Throughout Whole Site

afarberafarber Registered Users Posts: 267 Major grins
**EDIT: Sorry, it's working. I forgot to change the links in my navbar which were pointing to the old name.**

I searched, but surprisingly couldn't find an answer. I've successfully set up my custom domain name: www.sararoizen.com (from sararoizen.smugmug.com). Now, when I go anywhere on the site besides the homepage, it reverts back to sararoizen.smugmug.com/galleries, etc.

How do I make it stay with my custom domain: sararoizen.com/galleries, etc.

Thanks!!
Adam

    Thanks! I appreciate the comment.

As for a how-to, there really is none. It works like it's supposed to work. If I go to sararoizen.com and click galleries, it goes to sararoizen.com/galleries. If I go to sararoizen.smugmug.com and click galleries, it goes to sararoizen.smugmug.com/galleries.

What I forgot to do was change the links in my navbar (it's in the "header" section of the customization) to point to sararoizen.com/galleries instead of sararoizen.smugmug.com/galleries, etc.

    Hope that helps!

There is no problem. You just have to update your navbar. Basically, the way it works is that both www.name.com and name.smugmug.com will work simultaneously. Take your portfolio, for example:

    http://www.frazierfamphotography.com/portfolio

    and

    http://bernardfrazier.smugmug.com/Portfolio

are both active links. Currently your navbar links are all http://name.smugmug.com/xxx. If you change the link in your navbar to www.name.com/xxx then you will stay within the www.name.com website. Change all those links, and it shouldn't be a problem.

    Make sense?

Change the links in your nav to relative and your domain or nickname will stick.
Just leave out the http://BernardFrazier.smugmug.com part.

I'm computer literate and can accomplish some minor coding, but I'm missing something here. My main site is www.jamesbroome.com, but clicking on my 'Images' link places the visitor at jamesbroome.smugmug.com. Are you saying I can make it stay in my own domain instead of SmugMug's subdomain? How?

hi James, no, because you use www.jamesbroome.com for a different site (not SmugMug). You can CNAME photos.jameesbroome.com and then have that be what shows when people are on the SmugMug portion.

    How to:

Thanks (as always) for the help Andy. I've made the changes - we'll see if everything is hunky dory in a bit I guess!
