I shot an indoor boat show this weekend exclusively with the 10-17. I also carried my Pentax 18-55 but it was just too long. I used the real-short end on nearly every shot and only zoomed-in to get past some vertical near the edge of the frame.
The flash set-up worked great: 540FGZ with Gary Fong Clear Lumisphere and TR3 battery pack. For most shots I pointed the Lumisphere straight-up. For the long down aisle shots I tended to pick the ones where I had pointed the sphere at the object.
Probably 10-15% have been defished in PS to some degree. Looking at them fresh this morning, I can see that I have to go back and find vertical in a few. "Vertical" can be illusive with a fish-eye.
