Fighting cock, Cruz Bay, USVI
I took this last December during an errand to town. Doesn't this guy look like he thinks he owns the world? Could this be the sin of pride? Let's see:
the root of pride is found to consist in man not being, in some way, subject to God and His rule...
No, I guess that let's this guy out.Note to self, try to take camera to an actual cock fight next time I'm there.
If not now, when?

Quite proud of my photos, how about you? Do I put them above god, sometimes. Do I confess, h no. This is completely off the subject.
Just to say I do like your photo and I particularly noticed where Andy mentioned the DOF. I used to be very aware of that in the days of "film", I have let that go, for the most part. I was curious if others plan that well.
Uh, I might be more interested in the photo if the bird were doing something, like running from a fight, or let me check the composition. What were you trying to accomplish? Is it a portrait? OK, you were. I would have come in closer.
What does this have to do with photography. Not much. Stick to STA for this challenge, is my advice. He really had these sins nailed.
What can I say about my motives here. I was walking around this wild little town a little too early in the morning after dropping my son off for a scuba dive. Natch, I have my camera. And lucky it has 70-200 f2.8 "aboard". And even though the place is pretty exotic, I'm not really getting inspired. Then out of nowhere, comes this chicken. "Well, that's pretty interesting looking," I says to myself. So I chase him around and sit down in the dirt and eventually get this. Sort of like a cartoon I saw once but I had a camera instead of an axe.
But I posted it as a sort of egret and ospery alternative. Just another bird shot. As I said, next time, I think I'll take my camera to the cock fight. Might want a bodyguard there, though...
And he is a handsome bird, isn't he?
I was just about to ask if the background blur was shot or Photoshopped. It has the very lovely bokeh of the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS that you later said you were using. The cock does look proud of itself doesn't it?

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Kodak sat on it for almost a whole year before picking it. Go figure. I suppose that means they might be sort of short on shots about now, so get your entries in.
