So I'm not a good photographer to begin with. I'm very very new to SLR cameras. C&C welcomed, be gentle. :D

    Hi Shannon,

The expressions are good in the second shot. Both pics look soft to me. Were you using a tripod?

    Cheers,

Both shots, as already mentioned, are a little soft. When I first got these shots, I played around with them to see if I could fix the problem, but I didn't have much luck. The orange on black background plays with my eyes, as well as the skin tones a bit. Just something to think about the next time you shoot with the black background. Something tells me that your quality will get way better very soon. :ivar
I use only Canon cameras and glass

The lighting is very flat. I am guessing your flash was mounted on-camera and aimed straight at the subject. You might try bouncing the flash off a reflector to the side to get a bit of modeling (shadow) on the off-side of the face. The result will be a bit less harshness and a bit more dimension.

Yup you are all right!! I didn't use a tripod, I didn't put my flash on, used the camera mount, and didn't have them change clothes.

I got the photo box in the mail, opened it, grabbed my camera, was to excited to wait for my flash to charge (I've got cheapo sunpak that takes forever to charge), and said to the family, GET IN!! ne_nau.gif

Was too excited, and yes something, I don't know what it is, tells me that after this weekend my focusing techniques will be much better :ivar
