I wasn't sure where I should put this...so "The Big Picture" it is. Mods, please feel free to move it if you feel it would fit better somewhere else.
First of all I met four new smugmuggers last weekend! :clap And, got a couple smuggy pictures (they'll be posted below).
So, I also post on a local community forum. I generally stay in the photography section and the horses section. Well, two guys (smugmuggers danzig and jbr13) had the idea to oraganize a photo scavenger hunt in the county of St. Mary's in Southern Maryland. The items on the list were posted at midnight Friday and everyone had until midnight Sunday to take pictures of 30 items/places/people with the stipulation that all images had to be taken in St. Mary's County.
Lots of fun, driving, freezing (it's cold!), and phototaking took place. Since I live in a different county I had a teammate, my friend "Loper". Amazingly we were the only people to get all of the items on the list including "a good sunrise and sunset from the same location". Well, that location was Point Lookout and I got up at 4:00am to drive and take the shot after staying up until 1:30 - 2:00am the two previous nights researching things like "oldest church", "buildings that used to be bowling alleys" or "buildings that used to be movie theatres", etc.
It was funny seeing people along the way taking pictures of seemingly random things like phone boothes, blue crabs, big guns/canons, and welcome signs. But, it also reminded me of the shootout and preshootout when you'd see a car pulled over and cameras out...were the people shooting animals or landscapes or god beams? If any of you belong to a local photography group I think this would be a great idea to try out in your area too!
Here are some of my images from last weekend's hunt.
Sunrise @ Point Lookout
"something cool @ point lookout", this is a rock *duh* with a Muench star shortly after sunrise. I changed white balance in ACR to a much "cooler" temp.
A deserted house...we found LOTS of these.
Oldest Church w/signage
A great shot Loper took. This was her "a photograph of your favorite thing to photograph"
A railroad marker
A group of us ended up at Point Lookout at the same time on Saturday and we took a group shot, with our cameras Except for the little lady in the pink jacket (my friend Loper) we're all smugmuggers!
Danzig's car sports a smuggy!!
And so does his camera and one of mine!

That rock has... a lot of really tempting gear on it.

I know! All those nikons!
Ugh, I don't like getting up that early or going to bed that late, but it was really, really fun and I met some really cool people. Also, since my friend and I won we get to run the next one. :ivar There's lots of fun, strange things in Calvert to find.

Good to see the shots. I hardly ever get to St. Mary's anymore since I left Pax River.
A lot of stuff not too far away from here. I remember driving by that old church many times.
I need to get down there and into Calvert for some shooting.
