Over at Naturescapes.net, I read that Gatorland (Orlando Area, FL) is opening longer to satisfy photographers.

I know that Harryb suggests Gatorland - especailly during rookery season - to get some good nesting and chick shots.

The Gatorland Operator is active over at Naturescapes and posted the following:

"Howdy Folks!

After much thought and deliberation, I believe we have come up with a fair and equitable plan to make our Rookery available to everyone! Beginning March 11, 2008 we will be kicking off Gatorland's new "Dawn to Dusk" birding program that will allow entry into the Rookery at 7:30 am and the ability to stay past closing time until dusk. This new program will run Tuesday through Saturday March 11 - July 19, 2008, and will be included in the Gatorland Photo Pass for $99.99.

Single ticket holders will have the option to stay until dusk for an additional $10 with no early entry.

Annual Passholders will have the option to stay until dusk for only $5 (per visit) with no early entry.

We will also be adding a new after-hours guided Rookery Tour featuring the nightly "Fly In" of the thousands of birds that roost within our Breeding Marsh and Bird Sanctuary. This tour begins March 1, 2008 and will retail for just $15.99.

I am personally very excited about our new birding program, and welcome any and all comments. If you haven't yet had the chance to come out and see the Gatorland Rookery, then I invite you all to come out for a "sneak peek" of the Rookery on Saturday March 8, 2008 at 4:00pm. Admission will be just $10.00 per person and we will be staying until dusk to see the nightly fly-in... and even have a little alligator "night-shine" at the end. Hope to see you there!

I may have to head over there some evening!

Gatorland is making a real effort to be "photographer friendly" and its well worth a visit during mating season.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
