Canon 580EX II speedlight slides out of the off camera cord hotshoe!

I use my 580EX II with a Wimberly flash bracket and the Canon off cammera cord and have been using it for about 2 months. The flash has slipped out of the shoe completely (I was lucky to have been on grass at the time and not pavement) I now keep an eye on it, and have noticed how easily it slides out of the shoe causing the flash to either not fire, or being inconsistant with my settings.

Has anyone else had problems with the new quick release system?

Never had this problem with my 430EX!

Have you tried tightening the lock on the flash?

That doesn't seem to be an option on the 580EX Mk II!

I'll look when i get home but I'm pretty sure there's a lock on the shoe of the 580EX II.

There is a quick release lock, but it is either on or off. There is no way to adjust the tightness. Mine slips out while in the locked position.

I think that the pin that it lowers is on a spring, so that you can't break it by attaching it when it's slightly out of alignment, try "locking" the flash without it being on the camera, you can push the little locking pin up.

Basically, you should always wiggle the mounts around to give it a good chance to pop into place, the same goes, incidentally, for the old style flashes, they also can have the little pin stay popped up.

And of course, if it's not quite aligned, that also explain the flash not working properly

Thanks for the input! I think that should give me something to work with!
