I would appreciate any opinions about these two. I would especially like to know which composition you prefer; the portrait (vertical), or the landscape (horizontal).

    Vertical. It matches the shape of the subjects in the shot - the rock and the kid. I'd crop a wee bit off the top. That way, the water in the foreground becomes more dominant, and draws your eye up to the rock and the silhouettes. Very nice shot, BTW. thumb.gif Great yella.

    The horizontal has the subject in the center, which is usually weaker. And it leaves an empty space to the right that's just hanging there without any purpose.

    It's a tough call, but I prefer the landscape orientation. In the portrait orientation, the rock and it's shadow take up too much of the frame. The landscape also has a larger image area of those incredible yellows and oranges.

    Nice composition, too. The boy and the other rocks offset nicely the boulder and it's shadow occupying the centre of the frame.

    Well, so far it looks like it's 4 to 3 in favor of landscape.
