Trying to get better
OK, so I'm trying. I'm not a pro, heck I'm not even good enough to call myself a hobbyist yet, but still nonetheless trying So what do you think?

Don't fret I like em I'm a big fan of the SDOF. It isolates everything. I like the composition as well.
Have a good evening
Jim...
The shallow DOF experimenting is ok but what is really lacking is the dynamic of light. In photography, it's all about the light...no matter at times how cool a tiny piece of the frame is in focus, if the light isn't "grabbing" then it's simply a mostly blurry shot. Try to work on some more "in focus" shots and side/back light your subject. Allow some shadows to enter in creating tension and intrege. Use the facial lines and features as you "model" your lighting and you'll find that a totally sharp photo will become much more interesting than an out of focus one.
Just some food for thought. Keep shooting! This stuff takes lots of frames in practice.
