Through WIRE & GLASS

I got a chance to go to the Zoo this weekend.....ohhhhh boy am I having funning stuffing up with my Canon 20D :rofl

I somehow managed (as I have done before) to accidently change the setting from AV to M and never noticed....... and I learnt that this is something I really need to keep an eye on :huh

Sure glad I am finding these things out before I head off to USA :):
Note to Self ** Skippy Girl Check Your Settings before shooting and after changing lenses dear :D

These two shots were a little difficult but didnt turn our too bad considering the Cat was shot through thick Wire, and the Snake was shot through thick Glass.

    Very cool shots from the "wild".

    Seriously, most zoo shots have a 'zoo look' to them. Yours definately do not. Composition and detail are nice.

    What a very nice thing for you to say.......but I gotta tell you the Royal Melbourne Zoo here in Australia would have to be one of the Best Zoos in the World, and getting better, if that wire wasn't there the enclose is very very natural indeed......glad you liked the shots :D Skippy (Australia)

    you are right wire and glass are very hard to get around and take good shots .You did better than good i agree with first comment comp. and focus great lack of zoo feel .Jeff [I like the zoo

    I try hard to go for the Natural Look, but gosh it's hard to do, the animals do what they want when they want, or just don't do anything rolleyes1.gif

    Then there's the obsticle of the enclosure they are in headscratch.gif and how to get around that.

    Skippy, terrific shots. I love the color and texture of the jag, really nice.

    I would hesitate to blame camera design for the selection changes. Just need to be aware of how you're handling it.

    Notice how I posted it as BIG CAT hehehe, cause I kept saying I know it's not a Cheatah, they are very very lean, and don't have the body mass.

    It is in fact a JAGUAR......I chose not to post what I thought it was cause I wasn't sure rolleyes1.gif I dunno why but I always thought JAGUARS came in one color BLACK headscratch.gif

    You are right it is a JAGUAR, I refered to him/her as a BIG CAT because I'd forgetten if it was Jaguar or a Leopard, but it is a JAGUAR, and a very nice looking one too, he/she looked to be in excellent condition, beautiful coat too.

    Us Ozzie's don't have any Big Cats or Bears, Wolves, Squirrels, Racoons, Skunks, Monkeys, or heaps of other cool animals found in other countries.....you'd think we would have had some sort of big Cat wouldn't you ne_nau.gif

    I do like the Mountain Lion ... is a Cougar the same thing ne_nau.gif they have beautiful faces .......thank you for commenting :D

    We had a great day, I learnt more about my camera, and I'm feeling far more comfortable with it.......need to clean the sensor though it's quite dirty.

    Ahhhhh yes I like Snakes....... I was disappointed that the really yellow snakes were in a bad spot with their heads no where to be seen, they are the color of lemons, not sure if they are what they call Corn Snakes or not.

    I used the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro, it works very well in the Zoo environment, I find it much easier to focus manually with the Canon than I ever could with my Sony......... the viewfinders are nothing alike, you can clearly see if something is in focus or not, but I couldn't with my Sony.

    What I do like about the Sony though, is being able to get into awkward spots and turn that lens up or down ......can't do that with the Canon :D

    Hopefully as I become more aware of what I am doing I will be able to get more Animal shots to post .....Thank you for your comment.

    I still think you shouldnt be able to move the settings as easy as you can, you simply just turn it, no push and turn, no lock, I'd like to see a lock on it.

    Yep and you are correct, I need to be aware that when I handle it and when other people handle it I need to check the settings when I take it back off them.

    I was shooting with a young friend from work who was trying out her camera, and I did hand it to her for a couple of shots, while I tried to see if I could use her camera.......maybe she changed it to Manual??? still I should have check when we exchanged the cameras again.

    You know what I love about this new Gear....... the mistakes are fun to make rolleyes1.gif I am finding I am learning heaps from my mistakes, and most times I can clearly see what it was that I did wrong, and still salvage the image most of the time.

    The more I use it the more I feel comfortable with it, I am loving learning to use it ...... I'm excited and glad that we have so many people on forums such as these, and Dpreview full of people who go out of their way to help a person out thumb.gif Take Care Wxwax ....... Skippy (Australia)

    Not bad at all!
    Very nice color on both those shots, and I don't see any hint of wire. We have a small zoo near us where I have to shoot through glass or wire, so I know the problems. You did good!

    I agree with the "typical zoo pic" comment. Your's look like they were captured in the wild thumb.gifthumb.gif Good work!!

    I am at a loss to explain how you accidently move into Manual from Av mode headscratch.gif
    My mode dial is as stiff as my 717/828 mode dials. I have to use my fat fingers to move them. They do not move by accidently brushing them. It takes some effort ne_nau.gif Anyhow, it seems that all turned out OK :):

    With the exception of the occassional setting faux pas, looks like you and the 20D are getting along famously clap.gif I think you are going to come back with tons of great shots from your trip here :):
