Thoughts on the Naneu Pro Alpha or Bravo Camera Backpack?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for feedback on the Naneu Pro Alpha and Bravo. Wondering if any of you gurus out there have heard anything about these camera backpacks / bags. They are priced very competitively and have a urban look which is not found in another other bags except maybe Kata. But Kata is more futuristic than urban. Tamrac is too outdoorsy for my taste.

I need to be able to carry my D40x w/ my 18-200 VR lens attached, my small handheld Sony HD camcorder (HDR-SR1), flash (SB-600), and maybe a 50mm. The occassional jacket and various items for a daytrip makes these backpacks quite appealing too.

How is the build quality on these bags? Does the waist belt on the Alpha get clunky if you're just wearing it casually and don't feel like putting it on?

Any other recommendations and feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

I checked out their bags yesterday in local store and I have to say that they were the best looking bags in that store. The store had at least 1000+ bags from Lowepro, Crumpler, National Geography, and many many known brands. I read a lot about how great Lowepro bags are but I never liked their looks and how heavy they felt to me.

I already have http://www.vanguardgb.com/details.php?id=514 to carry all my camera/video equipment on long travel trips. If not, I would have grabbed their Alpha or Bravo bag. I was shopping for a walk-around-bag for my Alpha A700 that can fit couple of lens and flash. I felt the best looking bag for my taste was http://www.naneupro.com/products/mo-e/. That store had only black one and I like the Olive one. Just ordered from B&H.

The Nylon material it is made out of looks very durable and only over time I can comment on durability.

I've been using the Naneu Pro Alpha
It’s a great concept but they stumbled on the execution.

I just took my new Naneu Pro Alpha for a full day of hiking in the Grand Canyon. Plenty of room for my Canon 20D, three lenses, flash unit, and various filters & accessories. I still had room for a jacket and snacks and misc. stuff. Also carried a light-weight travel tripod. Using carabiners on the hip belt, I clipped on two one-liter water bottles. Total weight was about 30 pounds.

So what’s the problem? I’m just under six feet tall and weigh 170. This pack is meant for someone 5′9″ maximum and with a small upper body. I realized that as soon as it was delivered. But that was just a few days prior to my trip, so I decided to take it anyway.

When I adjust the pack so that the hip belt rests on the hip (to properly distribute the weight), the sternum strap comes at about my neck instead of across the chest. The padded portion of the shoulder straps is short so that the unpadded part sometimes digs in under the arms. The loop for the cell phone holder places it at about my chin.

Also, the silly little compass attached to one of the back pockets cracked the first time I set the pack down on a rock (you have to set the bag down on its back pouches in order to unzip it to get your equipment). Besides, who would ever use a compass where you have to take off your pack and hold it horizontally in order to orient the compass?

Bottom line: If you’re short and small-framed, this is a great bag. Otherwise, keep looking. I’ll try to sell mine on eBay and keep looking.
