Ok, so my shooting buddy and possible business partner had a really good look on his face in this shot. He was just sort of grimacing and then turned to look at me while we were on a shoot.

He doesn't have any good pics of himself yet and he was showing interest in getting some done. I think this is an excellent pic of him. I think he's a very good looking man and I've talked to him about modeling previously.

I'm trying to decided if I want to use this photo to send him a nice 8x12 as a gift.

So what do you guys think? Printable? Is he as photogenic as I think he is? Think he'd like it? lol It's really just a snapshot so it wasn't really composed per se.

Thanks for looking.

I don't post in the people forum too much as I'm usually shooting animals, so take my portrait comments with a grain of salt.

    How 'bout thumb.gif and mwink.gif .

    rolleyes1.gif

All joking aside yes he is a nice looking guy and yes this is a nice shot.

The highlights, especially at the corner of his mouth/left side of his face is a bit TOO much for me, but I don't know how much post you've done. If it's RAW and untouched you may be able to use "recovery" and "exposure" (in ACR in CS3) to get those highlights to a more manageable level.

I'm okay with the brightness of the highlight on his forehead, but the more I look it at the two vertical shadows in that highlight are a bit strange looking.

Is this version cropped? Do you have one with his whole ear?

Overall I like the expression, bokeh, and dramatic lighting. I personally think it's a shot worth printing; even more so if you can tamp back those highlights.

Hey, thanks a lot for your kind words and comments. No this is processed, not raw. I already compressed highlights and shadows a lot together to light the backside of his face. I'll experiment with what you said about his mouth and see what I come up with. The high contrast is keeping with my style, but I am willing to try new things(histo shows it not being overblown on his mouth, fyi) I'll toy with it.

    Thank you!!

Joe, I think that it would be a nice gift regardless. I do think that it would be a good example for your friend/biz partner that there is a lot of potential and that a non-threatening "practice shoot" could be fun so it doesn't alter his "lens personality". I've met people who if you catch them off guard their "lens personality" is terrific and it results in some very good shots but as soon as they feel the need to "pose" then their essence is missing.

I'd say either way go for it!!!

He certainly is a looker! :whew Nice conversion, though I agree the area near the mouth is a bit too hot for my tastes, even if it isn't blown. You managed a very nice composition considering this was a quick grab. He should be very happy with this. thumb.gif

    So what...
I tend to like overblown shots. I think this is wonderful. But I don't always go with the pack on what they think. What about what was your intent for the image?

Yes, I'd take out those two shadows on his forehead, but, for my taste - I like it quite a bit and the subject is ooh-la-la too.mwink.gif
