I'm heading to LA in a couple of weeks for a business trip that will allow for some down time and I'm brining some of my gear. Probably staying in Santa Monica and not familiar with the area...any good places for shooting?

Santa Monica Pier, Third street Prominade in Santa Monica, and Venice Beach is close by and nice.

They also have a farmers market on the weekends that is nice as well.

Sorry for the late entry, but I just saw this, and had to mention:

Not a lot of people seem to know this, but the Venice area (just South of Santa Monica) has an actual canal area. The Venice Canals here are surrounded by beautiful homes and boats, and edge up on the ocean. A really pretty area to shoot.
