A little experiment with lighting. Backlit with an LED flashlight, front lighting courtesy of a Mini Mag flashlight.

Cutting remarks and platitudes gleefully accepted.

Nice one Lee clap.gif such beautiful colour in that Geode,
and it's a good EGG shape too.

The only thing I would alter is the background at the base of the rock.
you can see there are some odd shadow flaws around the base of the rock.

I'm wondering if you tried to clone something out there?

Love that ROCK ... Good Shot Lee thumb.gif .... Skippy :D

Very beautiful image Lee. Fine example of making the most of the tools you have at hand.

Thank you very much, Skippy. clap.gif

Either you're very good or you lightened the image (I'll go with very good mwink.gif), because I cloned out an acrylic base. It's also dark at the bottom because I needed a gobo to cut down on light hitting that base and causing bad reflections. Unfortunately, the only way to keep them to a minimum was to shadow the rock a little, too.

Thank you, Jack'll. Speaking of "tools at hand," the gobo mentioned above was a pocket knife in a black leather case on its side. :D

That's fantastic. It looks like a Pacific volcano, surrounded by a reef. But the snow's a dead give-away that it ain't in Polynesia, eh?

Very nice thumb.gif. To my eyes, it seems as if only the center portion is in focus though headscratch.gif

    First, thank you. :D

Second, now that you mention it, it does seem a tad out of focus top and bottom. It was leaning away from the camera a bit, but I thought I'd had a small enough aperature. Now I know I didn't. Thank you for pointing that out.
