Defensive Strategies

I frequently visit the local botanical gardens here in Southern California, and I always bring my camera. The diversity of interesting things to photograph in these places always astounds me.

One subject which has interested me is how plants have evolved their various defensive capabilities.

Here's some shots of some of the things I found.

#1 is from the Huntington library rose garden.

    Ooooooooouch even, these look like they'd be quite nasty to come in contact with eek7.gif especially the second and third ones.

    Nice job, those plants really look like they mean business.

    Reminds me of an old joke about two balloons wafting around and one of them says: "Look out there's a cactussssssssssss." :D
