Today was our annual cub scout pinewood derby. A bittersweet day since this was my son's last derby. He will be a boy scout next year, and they do not race.

We have a high tech, computerized aluminum track!

Top three for the Webelos. The boy on the left won the overall derby.

Proud Evan with his car. He decided to carve his own car this year with my Dremel tool. The highlight of the derby was that his car won "Best Craftsmanship"! I've aged a bit watching him carve the car, but he still has all of his fingers.redface.gif

Even with the high-tech track, there is something wonderfully low-tech about this. At least they are not stuck to video games.

Nice series. Thanks for sharing. thumb.gif

I think it was 1958 when I carved my last Pinewood Derby Car.

Thanks, Richard. The high tech track has really helped this event stay focused on the boys and the low tech cars. There's no longer any questioning about the races and times. The boys are just excited to show off their cars and watch them race.

Really a fun, old fashioned event.

My son became a bit nostalgic when he realized this would be his last pinewood derby. He goes to boy scouts next year and will not race.

All I could think to tell him was that he would probably be back with his own son. I think he actually got it.iloveyou.gif
