Looks like quite crude cast finishing on the pistol but suppose bearing in mind the use that's not important

You must have very large hands! This flare gun was made during WWII and fired a 37mm parachute flare. "37mm" is not a typo! This is a BIG gun!
I'm open for ANY sugestions that'll help me improve my macro shooting. I'm on my first D-SLR and lens (Nikon D40X and Tamron 18-250 w/macro), so the future is wide open for me.
This is the breech release for another flare gun; a Columbia MOD-3
I had to crop quite a bit.
