Sorry I haven't been around much lately -too busy and too many photography related forums out there. Easy to spend all day postin' and not takin' any photos :D

Here's a miner bee that posed for me and the MPE-65mm. I'm just gonna post a few frames of a six frame series. Diffused MT-24EX used for the lighting and a 40D to connect it all to...

Wow John eek7.gif did you hand hold the 4x's shot ???

What beautiful eyes that Bee has, and the detail at the back of the body in the first shot.

I have not seen a close up of the head of a Miner Bee before,
that's quite a little head piece between the eyes.

Ya lucky man John, very cool shots clap.gif .... Skippy :D

Fantastic photos - you must be wrapped!

I notice that you used a MT-24 EX. I've just got myself one of those and you mention that it's 'diffused' light - what exactly is that and how did you do that? I'm still reading the manual and having a play. any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Skippy :cool

All of my images are hand held -I just look for ways to brace the camera and shoot at angles that put me at an advantage.

This is the time of year when I shoot the most solitary bees. Odd temperature changes sometimes slow them down enough for me to get close. The head piece is actually mites -the poor little guy was pretty heavily infected with them. Common this time of year.

I like shooting solitaries more than any other family of bees -those eyes...

Those eyes!!!! Is the pattern reflected in #3 the diffuser on the flash or just something else really cool?!

Either way, awesome shots, and I second the cold weather slowing them down nicely

Wow weee they are some shots at 4X. You are like so many on here so very talented. I am still learning to swim in the shallow end from your last email with my 40D and MP-E 65 but seeing photos like those certainly amount to Skippy's encouraging words to succeed.
    Kind regards

Keep at it Bob, and keep in mind that when you see photos that you like they were made by someone who spends a lot of time practicing with the camera. I had an Xti for less than a year and I took over 25,000 frames with it...

It's amazing to think of the scale of it, if I had a colony of dozens of critters the size of (relatively speaking) mice on me, as in, living on me, I, well, I'm not sure I know what I'd do, but it wouldn't involve carrying on with business as usual!!!!
