Cokin Filters and Wide Angle lenses

I'm heading to Yosemite the 3rd week of May. I have rented a Sigma 10-20MM and a Nikon 80-400MM to compliment my Tamron 28-75MM for the trip. I plan to try a lot of landscape shots with the Sigma and it takes a 77MM filter. So I was thinking of getting a Cokin setup for use with a graduated ND filter. With a few adaptors, I could easily use the same filters on all of the lenses I will have with me.

I have a friend with several Cokin P filters. So here is my question, is the Cokin P size the right size for a 10MM DX lens. I know its the right size for that filter size (77MM). But is it wide enough to avoid vignetting? Some of Cokins info suggest that I might need to be looking at the larger sizes (i.e. Z or XP).

Also, what about a lens hood. Should you just not worry about one in combination with a Cokin. Are they not as important on a wide angle?

Just curious what Cokin setup you went with. If you used the P size filters, did you have any vignetting problems?

I stayed away for the reason of owning a 10-22. I would love to be able to buy the smaller and cheaper P-size filters from Singh-Ray, et al, but I was told you'd vignette below 16mm. Now that I don't have a 1.6x crop camera, I might consider going back to the smaller size.

Having said that, I went with the Lee foundation kit and step-rings, which is really excellent.

I used the Cokin P size and did not have any vignetting issues. I did stay away from polarizing filter on this one because it gave some weird patterns in the skies. Some skies were odd even without the polarizer though. I thought the best use of the lens on my trip was in Muir woods, and the Mariposa grove of Sequoas. But I had no filters on here.
